Doomsday: Last Survivors is a strategy and management game, set in a near post-apocalyptic future, where zombies have taken over the world. Players will be able to guide one of the last remnants of humanity left on Earth, with the goal of building a safe haven for all the survivors, who have to fight day after day to keep breathing.
The main mechanic of Doomsday: Last Survivors is very similar to that of other strategy and resource management games: you start with a small and poorly developed base, and as you complete missions and earn rewards, you will be able to improve it. Little by little, you will build new buildings and level up the ones that are already constructed in your base. And to do all this, what you will need are two fundamental resources: food and wood. Fortunately, it won't be long before you start producing your own resources, thanks to farms and sawmills.
One aspect that sets Doomsday: Last Survivors apart from other games in the same genre is that its story mode does a lot of heavy lifting, with the main plot starring an adult man and a young girl, quite reminiscent of Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us. Even some of the story aspects are reminiscent of Naughty Dog's game. The main missions in the game will allow you to advance through this central story arc, while you discover many other subplots in which you will get to know the rest of the characters, of which there are many.
Speaking of characters, in Doomsday: Last Survivors you will be able to recruit more than thirty different heroes, each with their own background and special abilities, which you will be able to utilize during battles. All the heroes, moreover, are well-designed, with fluid animations that give them a truly spectacular appearance. As is common in games with a system similar to Gacha, the way to obtain almost all these characters is completely random: you will have to use your diamonds to send vehicles out of the shelter, looking for survivors who want to join. As a result, little by little and with a bit of luck, you will be able to recruit them all.
Although most of your time will be spent managing the village where your survivors live, sometimes you will also have to go out and face the zombies face to face. In this type of missions you can enjoy a sort of Tower Defense mechanic, where your heroes will be located in one part of the map, and you will have to try to repel the constant zombie attacks. This is where the special abilities of each character will come into play. Some are able to create barriers, others carry out area attacks, and others allow you to concentrate damage on specific points of the map. Learning to use these skills well can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Doomsday: Last Survivors is a good strategy game, which even has some subtle RPG touches. A very entertaining title, that after succeeding on iOS and Android devices, comes to Windows in style, with new configuration options, which will allow you to enjoy the game's graphics in HD and at 60 FPS. And, just in case anyone was wondering, yes, your user account for the mobile version is fully compatible with the PC version.
